Yesterday I bought a Ford YT 16 hp with 42 in. mower deck. It has a B & S IC engine. Paid $100 for it. Haven't started it yet. Hope to do that tonight. Doesn't look in too bad of shape. Guy said it ran good, just bought a newer mower. Needs a battery, tire sealer and a belt. It has an electric switch to activate mower. Hope that doesn't cause any problems. Anyone out there know when this might have been made and if parts might still be available? I think I remember seeing these probably 20 years ago. Did I make a mistake? Be truthfull but kind ! ! ! !

I would say for a $100.oo you really couldn't go wrong, and it would make a great fixer project.

I can't recall the website, but there a site for older lawn and garden tractors w/a lot of info.

If it works, I'm jealous; got to go shopping for a cheap riding mower tomorrow myself.

Most yt parts are still available at New Holland dealers. The engine parts would be available at any Briggs parts seller. These tractors are generally early to mid 80's and where originally made by Gilson who was bought out by lawnboy which is now a part of Jacobson. Hope this helps you out.

spencer200,
Thanks for the info. That does help. Up to now the people that I tell about it go HUH??? "Didn't know FORD made a yard tractor".
Bird,
Saw where you sold your Bota. Well maintained machines will always sell quickly. I'm sure yours was a classic example of a well maintained machine. I wasn't seeing many used little yard machines available. Just stumbled on this one from a guy at work who's son was selling it......and the price was right too!

I started it up last night. Runs OK. Mowed a little to see how it worked. Cut real good. Electric mower clutch worked just fine. The drive is a little sluggish on the take off. All the gears work. Need to replace the drive belt. The one that's on there now looks like it is almost the original. I can see why. Doesn't look like it will just pop on and off.

Rod,
If the engine is original, look on the engine shroud for a model/type/code number. The
1st two digits of the code number will tell you what yr. the engine was made. For instance
a code number of 84021 would indicate the engine was made in 1984. The tractor will most
likely be an '84 model too. Hope this helps. Let us know what you find out.

Make sure if your going looking for a belt at your local dealer you take it with you or you have the componant code of the mower deck and the tractor it will make the part guys job much easier getting what you need the first time. Plus you will be happy when he ask you for them and you got them with you.

that tip can always go bad because the motors can always be replaced. there should be a placard on the side of the frame
