Well, I have a beard and it is mostly gray (not much coverage on top of head). It is my theory that the gray color is comming from the brain cells that I have been loseing. I know that I have a leaky brain, because I keep making the same wrong moves multiple times.

One of these actions involves the 3PH. I tend to forget to lift it upon starting the tractor. There were a couple of times, when I wanted to insure that I would not forget to lift it. So after shutting off the tractor, I would move the lever so it would at least get it off the ground when it the tractor started.

Any thoughts on this instant and automatic lifting, upon starting the tractor?

I keep my 3ph in the raised position because I do not like surprises when I start my tractor. Several times I have shut down my tractor with the 3ph down and put the control lever in the upper position after shutting the tractor down. Once in a while I put things a little too close to the 3ph and when I start the tractor the hitch raises and causes damage to the items I placed too close to it. I have left my rear blade raised for weeks at a time on my 3ph and it stays that way so I do not see any problem with leaving it up.

You're not the first...nor will you be the last to forget lifting the 3ph. I've done it several times...but the one time cost me $125 when I broke a pto shaft to my seeder. I call that incident the "old-2x4-over-the-head".

Perhaps you could make a label and stick it on the steering wheel that reads..."Lift 3PH Before Starting". It's what mechanics on Formula One cars put on the steering wheel "New Pads"; meaning new brake pads.

Good Luck

I don't have a problem with that mechanically (don't know enough to argue the point either direction /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif), but from a safety standpoint this isn't good. What if a kid (or an adult for that matter) bump the 3ph lever and suddenly dropped that blade. I feel sorry for anyone's foot or worse that would happen to be under the implement. Just like the FEL, I lower when I'm not going to be using it. Not trying to be the Safety Police, but why take unnecessary chances like this?

I agree with you. I forget things like that because I don't have any kids around any more and keep my tractor locked up inside of a pole barn when I am not operating it. If I park it outside for more than a few minutes unsupervised I too lower the 3ph and when ever I shut the tractor down outdoors I also lower the FEL. I always lower the FEL when I park it for the day and once in a while I do forget to raise it prior to backing out of the barn. The sound of metal scraping on cement wakes me up real quick.

I guess what I really wanted to ask about is whether this might be harmfull to the engine or hydraulics.

i'm always jumping on after bringing in a twitch, letting out the clutch, and... WHY is this (insert expletive) tractor spinning? Oh YEAH, pick up the winch!!

I figured it's putting a little more load on the starter, which is one reason I always drop whatever I have attached.

I'm certainly no expert but have been told by old equipment operators not to put a load on a diesel until it warms up. Might be the only issue I could think of.

Beard is gray, solar panel is free of hair and probably allows UV to kill brain cells. That is my theory...

I found a pretty good cure for the three point problem. I usually did it when I jumped on the tractor, started it and hit the go pedal (HST).

Once I learned to stop backing the tractor into it's parking place (i.e. park nose in), I stopped having the problem.

Seems I look over my shoulder before backing and now see the 3pt implement in the down position... Mind you it is not a perfect record but I rarely go more than a few inches before I pick up motion in my side vision..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LOL, remember we are only human....
