The original oil filter was a JX0707 filter or similar with the 24 x 2mm thread and a seal diameter of 72mm. I originally made up an adapter so that I could fit the Ryco Z9 or Sakura C-1121 which have the ¾-16 UNF thread, which is an easily obtainable filter here in Oz. The Z9 has an outer seal diameter of 71mm and is a similar physical size. The Ryco filter costing AU$10 at my local auto parts store. Whenever I changed the oil filter my adaptor would come out of the housing, and I would have to use grips to get it out of the old filter. Annoying
Recently I saw a filter housing for sale with a ¾-16 UNF thread mounting and the same 55mm mounting bolt spacing. Its pictures showed it looked almost identical to the Foton unit as regards the oil passages. I decided to try one out. It was advertised as a KK385 3T30 oil filter housing for a Laidong tractor by CIRCLE D in Perth, Western Australia.
When it arrived, I confirmed that the oil passages and general dimensions of the Foton and Laidong housings were near identical. The only difference being that the Laidong unit had a threaded hole in the top. I am guessing it is for an oil pressure sender. I don’t need it, so I inserted a bolt with thread tape to blank it off ensuring that the bolt didn’t protrude into the output gallery.
After fitting it I fired up the engine. The oil pressure light went out and after a while the filter warmed up with the oil flowing through it. Job done. I have included a couple of photographs showing the filter housings and the completed job.
As an aside I am also using the Jackmaster engine oil bypass filter which I fitted some years ago.
May I finally add that I have also mentioned CIRCLE D in my past posts, but I am not associated with them in any way. I am just a customer.
