found a 12.5 LTH simplicity mower

that the previous owner of the house we just bought left....It looks tired and beat up but I believe I can return it to useful service. I only had a few minutes to look it over before my wife tugged me by the ear back to helping move stuff......the battery's flat but I snuck back to the garage, and rummaged through some boxes and found my charger. I "jumped" it briefly and it turned over.....Then I had to high tail it back out of the garage....how do I tell the age of this seemingly nice mower? where is the cheapest parts source?

I downloaded a parts manual from Simplicity....its got a vanguard single cylinder B&S engine and the tractor is a mod. 1691795 s/n 2006

Any help/leads woyuld be well recieved...the grass is started to grow and my tired old ariens ride on is deep in the bowels of a storgae unit.....

Agco/Simplicity dealers should have most if not all the parts available for that mower. The Vanguard is a great engine, and the tractor might very well be worth fixing up. Drag it out and look it over, you'll probably have good luck getting it to go as Simplicity made some very good machines even in their LT line. Charge up the battery, change the oil, put a plug and fresh fuel in it, and say your prayers.
Then if it's a matter of getting a new battery, some belts and blades, your wife will be grateful you won't need a new tractor for a couple of years.

ACK! I'm all for getting it going but don't want to put of or stall the inevitable....

absolutely. left it on trivckle charge over night added some fresh gas and bingio I got it going...time for some PM and fixing things I come accross....I LOVE to tinker with pretty much anything mechanical.....

I had well over 1400 hours on my little 12.5 vanguard engine in my old Simplicity, and it was still running fine when I traded it for my Legacy.. Good luck with yours!

Simplicity is about the best little lawn tractor you can buy even better than a JD in my opinion. I would keep it even when you buy your tractor. It will be a great trim mower.
