So I was checking out Craigslist the other day and saw a Kodiak 6' rotary brush cutter advertised...called the guy, found out it was a young dude whose grandad owns an apple orchard, no longer had use for his cutter, only 3 years old...asking $400...crazy deal but small problem, missing front half of the pto shaft. The rest of the cutter is in awesome condition, just the missing link (so to speak).

My question...should I just buy a whole new shaft (around $150 or less) or try to find the outer sleeve, outer and inner yokes, etc. Any of you guys savvy with pto repairs? In your opinions, which is the cheapest option...which is the best option?

Honestly there are so many salvage yards or farmers who have many of these in the scrap for $ 5-10 ...take your pick ?

I have a 18ft macdon swather that is perfectly useable with new canvas and new jokes you can have for $150

Unless the seller knows where the other half is it may take you a long time to locate a half PTO shaft. Buy a new one and be mowing the same day.

Go down to Tractor Supply, Farm Fleet or whatever your local store like that is with your 1/2 shaft and a matching halfshaft. They will probbaly have the other half for $60-$80 with the guard and if not, you can get the whole shaft at the same time.

Yep - I would also take it to my local tractor dealer or Tractor Supply and see if they can match it up, if not grab a new one and go. Still will have a nice mower for the price.
