MF135
I have a 1970ish MF135. The 3point lifting arm will not come up. I removed the hyd head and drained the oil to change the filter. I found a spring in the bottom of the sump. It is 5 inches long, 3/4 inch di and light gage. Anyone know where it come from? I can not find it in any book that I have.

Here are some pics of when I had mine torn apart. The two springs in the images are the only two I remember seeing, but that was a little while ago and my memory isn't great.

Hope this helps.

On another note, I just changed the oil and filter in my 135 last weekend, overgreased the lift-arms about a month ago, excess lube fell into the oil and over time plugged the filter solid, wouldn't move at all.

Works great now though, expensive mistake on my part!

Thanks for that Mike. Those springs are still there. This one is of lighter Gage and a little wider. If I can not fine what it is I will just leave it out and see what happens LOL.

No problem, if you find your oil was contaminated make sure the boots at the base of your shift levers are not torn to prevent water from getting into your oil. Not sure what climate you're in but it doesn't take much of a rain if your machine stays outdoors like mine does. I tarp mine in well to keep the weather off it best I can.

Also a good time to grease your lift arms while you have it apart and can do a good job wiping off the excess lube, so you don't have the same problem I did down the road.

Cheers

I just changed the transmission/hydraulic system fluid in my Ferguson TO-35.
There was a lot of water in the sumps, and I do believe it got in there just as Mike said above; through the two transmission shift lever rubber boots. I also noticed, a bit late, that there are two transmission drain plugs, and a lot of old fluid will remain in the system if you don't drain from both locations. I wound up draining and filling the system three times, and running the lift arms up and down several times with each change. In cold weather, I was having an occasional problem with the lift arms not dropping down, which made plowing snow a bit difficult ! I'm hoping that the fresh fluid will help. So far, the system operates normally again.
I bought some new aftermarket shift lever boots a couple of days ago . I've also started keeping a tarp over the tractor, something I haven't done for 34 years. I think finding all that water in the transmission scared me into finally covering the entire tractor.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. While it is an annoyance in bad weather, it really takes no time at all to tarp it up, and once you get your bungees the length you need it really does do a good job.
