My current 6 foot RC is nowhere near enough for the tractor I'm pulling it with. Money is a little tight, but I found a 8 foot RC for CHEAP.. catch is that the internals to the T-Box (center gearbox) are completely gone - center gear box housing is there to compare a new one to, but nothing appears to be inside of it. Also, the Flex Coupler shafts are missing (CV-type shafts from center gearbox to outer gear boxes). The price is CHEAP - almost "too good to pass up" cheap... For such a good price, the question is, do I take the gamble and buy this thing for basically FREE? Worst case - I can buy the OEM retrofit parts direct from the manufacturer for about $1500.00 and be all in for under $2k.. but if I get lucky, I can get aftermarket and be out for a little over half of that. I've found some aftermarket parts that I THINK will work but it is a gamble until I have the unit in hand to match everything up. I know the gearboxes aren't ALL universal, but as long as I pay attention to the gear ratio and make sure all the center and outer shafts line up, I assume it can be done without too many complications..

8 foot would be WAY more appropriate for my 7 foot wide tractor. I wish it were 10-12 ft, but it would still be an improvement over my current 6 footer... The price for sale seems great at first, but after you add in parts + my time/labor which I don' t have much of to spare these days, the question is whether or not this deal is "too good to pass up", or do I just say F-it, pass on it, and hold out for a 10+-footer in field-ready condition for a little more $$$ at auction?? I'm also wondering since I've got almost 30 acres to mow if 8 foot is even enough to be considering behind a 70hp tractor or if I should hold for 10+ since my tractor should be able to pull a 14-footer all day. Unfortunately, most bat-wings I've seen are either DIY hack jobs, or just aren't in the current budget.

Any advise or experience swapping these gearboxes & ability/compatibility between models + a side of "I saw a _________ sell for $________ at auction" appreciated!

$1000.00 a foot for the increase in size. Wouldn't be worth it to me.

I would hold out for a 10' or maybe a 12' batwing, prices at local auctions down here ln the SE have started coming down ,and with the almost certain recession coming prices should get lower.

Agreed. I decided to pass on it and hold out for at least a 10-foot RC. By the time I added up $1k minimum for parts + time/labor/PIA factor it just didn't make sense for such a small upgrade.

If your shopping you should look at the Hiniker 5710 six foot flail mower shredder which has
a CV PTO joint and can mow down to 2 inches.

The 5710 Flail Mower has a standard equipment ratchet jack cutting height adjustment
or it can be equipped with a double acting hydraulic cylinder to adjust the cutting height;
It also has a parking stand as standard equipment.

$18k 6 foot wide mower... not what I'm looking for. I will be needing either a sicle/disc/drum to cut hay with eventually but not yet.
