Same here. It looked to be some sort of implement, perhaps horse drawn.

My mother in law has some ancient trees on her property with cannonballs in them from the Civil War. Were still visible when she was a kid, but have long since grown over. You can definitely make out the lump and weird patterns in the bark though.

I recall reading an article where this woodworker was cleaning up some huge beams recovered from an old dismantled grist mill that was like 150 years old. He discovered a mule shoe completely imbedded in one of the old beams that had not been detected by the original builders of the mill.

Where I grew up a water tap was attached to a tree and over the years the tree grew around the pipe with only the tap showing.
We told folks that that maple was the best maple sap producer ever.

Now that was 40 years ago and recently I revisited the homestead and to my surprise the tap still shows up well.
