Carfax reports are useful but they are by no means comprehensive. Body shop repairs that are not done by a dealer are not likely to show up. Lots of things are not likely to show up.
They are worth the few bucks they costs but don't kid yourself, they only show what gets entered into various databases, and that is by no means 100%.
