Free heat

Has anyone with a BX 2200 w/ Cab, removed the plastic fan from the water pump and replaced it with an electric fan mounted to the radiator and wired it so you could switch it to pull or blow air. Like summer, winter settings. I am going to measure the fan dia. and check it out. The thermostat opens at 180 degrees, you could have the fan on it's own thermostat so it would come on automaticaly and blow warm air into the cab. I think it is a great idea, I had been wondering what the odds of finding a fan with reverse pitch would be.

Sounds interesting. Although, if you had air blowing into the cab then you could pick up exhaust and or fuel vapors. If the cab was tight do you think there would be enough air blowing by the radiator to keep the engine cool?

The cabs come with a "winter front" that basically is a foam and vinyl pad that fits behind the screen under the dash. This reduces the movement of heated air sucked out of the cab by the fan. There is a bottom plate by the battery that you then remove to allow sufficient outside air to be drawn into the radiator while the screen is blocked during winter operation.

Watch your amperage draw as well as the original dyno has but enough output to keep the oem headlights lit.

I am concerned about the exhaust myself. Thought I would install a carbon monoxide detector in the cab. In the winter my BX2200 seems to run very cool, going to check the actual temp. My Sims Cab didn't come with a vinyl pad for the raditator screen and I have the HD alternator on order with my dealer. Keep thinking and we all may come up with a good idea.

Just been thinking about the exhaust issue and it would probably be a good idea to route the exhaust pipe above the hood. That would keep most of the exhaust out of the cab and look cool as well. It would have to be able to be removed in when you need to remove the cowling for service.

After digging into my free heat idea, it looks like we will save no money, the Mill Supply heater that start at $102.49 plus the cost of material to hook it up, that others are talking about is probably the cheapest and safest way to get heat into the cab.
