Found a really nice JD 71 4 row 3 pt. planter. Only problem is that its in Blakely, GA and Im in DeKalb, TX. Guy selling it said freight was usually $1.50 to $2.00 per loaded mile. I checked Google Map and it looks to be about 700 miles. $1400 is a lot to pay to get it here (Im sure I would feel differently if I hauled over land for a living) but you get the point. Is there Any, Any, Any, way (if I was really patient) that I could possibly get the thing here without doubling its cost with shipping? Any and all advice welcomed. thanks

Hello,
Go to uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Cars or Moves I have used them in the past.

Go to the website and follow the format, they will list your shipment
with no FEE.
Allow your shipment to list, and many haulers will see it ,and make bids.
It's up to you to accept the bid or turn it down.
The longer you hold out the better chance of you receiving a lower bid.
Take a picture of your item so you can down load it . Items with
pictures always get's more bids.
The key to receiving a fair bid is time. By not being in a hurry
you stand a good chance of a trucker needing your item to fill his trailer.

I paid $1K for a 2-row JD 71 a few months ago. Shipping cost was $300 from Minnesota to Northern CA (a lot longer distance than 700 miles).

You need to get on the uShip website. Use their calculator to get information on recent similar type and weight shipments between the two zip codes relevant to your situation. Then list your shipment and get quotes from the haulers.

A few years ago I went through uShip to have a vintage IH Little Genius 2-14 moldboard plow shipped from central Illinois to northern CA. That plow probably weighs about what your planter weighs. Got a half dozen quotes on line via uShip from haulers. Took one that looked reasonable (it wasn't the lowest). Shipping cost was $550 plus a $75 tip since the hauler busted his butt to get it to me on schedule.

Good luck.
