front axle 3120?

ok guys i have a question. I have had my 3120 for about 6 months. It is in at the dealer right now because axle fluid is leaking out from the area around both front tires. The dealer says it is the seals that are in this area. Is this a common problem on these tractors? I have been using the tractor in heavy mud and snow this past winter, but i do try each time to clean the mud from around the front tires. I have the R4 tires on this tractor. My last tractot was a JD 650 with R1 tires and I never had this problem once. I am just curious whether it was just defective seals of if this tractor does not like the mud? I hope this is not the case because the mud is not going away. Just wondered if this problem is common becasue of a defect or if mud is not good for these beasts? Let me know guys, thanks.

I haven't had problems with my 4300, and have not heard that it is a common problem.
Wondering why you 'play' in the mud. I wait for it to dry off, or avoid the mud as it makes a mess. Now I do remember the days on the farm where plowing through the barnyard in deep mud, etc. was necessary to get the chores done. But then some innovative preparation of the barn yards solved a lot of that problem so it wasn't 'mud' and it wasn't 'deep' %$*# either.
But your 'mud' driving must be a necessary thing.

Good luck with the new seals. Careful that pressure washing isn't blowing them out, but I can't imagine that happening.

yeah it is necesary, wish it wasnt. We have 20 horses, 17 of which are boarders horses. I have to put round bales out as well and clean stalls and paddocks weekly. So when it gets muddy i still have to work. No way to make a clat paddock much less muddy when it gets warm and there is precipitation.

I have had no problems with my 3120 front axle and gone through 2 Ft of snow and about 1 Ft of mudd but I wash it everytime I use. I do work nights at John deere dealership and have not heard anything on the front axle leaking.I have had my 3120 for 2 months. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have your Dealer check with his service rep at Deere, we've had several come in both XX10 & xx20's and they told us to use regular gear oil instead of using the Hy-guard the book shows to use. None have been back yet
