I've noticed a few older posts on L series Kubotas with front axle leaks but nothing on a B7510. I'm looking for advice on changing the seals. The front axle seems to be leaking from the top of the housing (see arrow in attached photo) on both sides. I found a couple exploded parts diagram (attached) with the seals labelled (not sure what model Kubota this is) with letters A, B, C, D. Any idea which seal this is likely to be?

Thanks,

Sean

And your lucky letter is A. I have done this repair twice on one side of my L4200, not too hard, but you need a large size snap ring plier, to get apart. Pull the bottom plug and work your way up.

Are the front axles in these machines unvented like the JD cuts?

Thanks Ken. I'm assuming the front wheel needs to be taken off to get at these seals? It's winter here now, so I may try to just top up the fluids and watch to make sure things don't leak too much until Spring.

I don't think there are any vents.

Yes, pop the wheel and then the bolts on the hub flange, exposing the internals.. Large snap ring for the first external "C" clip, then it should slide down allowing access to the seals.
Get some RTV as well, you'll need it to button the flange up.

May not apply to this exact situation, but enough counter weight on the 3 pt hitch takes weight off the front axle when loader is on the tractor. This will give more life to the front axle components.

Thanks for these comments. I bought the tractor (used) about a month and a half ago. At the time I didn't see any leaks but I think the seals may have been gone before it came into my possession. I've only been using the FEL for snow (which is sometime heavy) and usually have a snowblower on the back. I have heard from others that not having weighted rear tires or a counterweight on the 3 pt hitch can put additional strain on the front axle.

I'll try replacing the seals on my own. Need to buy large snap ring pliers and a narrow pickle fork by the sounds of it.

Weighted rear tires are great for stability & traction, but do not take any weight off the front axle. Good that you have the snow blower on the 3 pt, but maybe more weight there would be better?

HI Sean. Have you fix that seal? How was it? My B7510DT start leaks same spot as yours and when I drain the oil, it was complete milk color. so I replace them all but I guess I need to replace the seal too. Would you remember what part number was? Thank you for your input in advance. Joe.

Hi Joe,

To temporarily slow the leak, I replaced the axle oil with gear-oil instead of the lighter transmission oil that was in it. The manual says you can use either but gear oil slowed the leak considerably.

I talked to the guys at the Kubota dealership and they gave me photocopies of the shop manual for how-to instructions on the seal replacement. You can see the part numbers on Kubota's on-line catalog viewer. I'm in Canada so I signed in here

The seal at the top in the diagram there is part # 6C19056220. The dealer said these go from time to time. If your oil was milk colored it probably got water in it.

Let me know how it goes...I'll be tackling mine this summer. I don't have a garage and have been waiting for the weather to warm up. Good luck. Sean
