Just completed a major 500 hours service of my ever reliable Kioti which included a front axle oil change.
The dealer completed the first service free and I observed him refilling the front axle until the white ball floating behind the sight glass touched the top of the glass.
Anyway, I drained the oil and filled the two bevel gear cases then the axle itself.
I didn't check how much came out so I was slow to fill , knowing it would be less than the stated 7.5 litre dry fill capacity.
Problem was that the little white ball wasn't moving up smoothly with the fill.
I had put about 7 litres in by this time.
I took it for a run and wasn't happy that the white indicator ball was now to the side of the glass...... but was pretty sure the axle didn't need more oil.
So I unscrewed the sight glass (catching 1.5 litres of the fresh oil . Holding the glass vertical the ball was clinging tightly to the side of the glass.
Now I had read a thread on this forum which suggested excess old grease after regreasing the bevel gears is deposited in the axle oil.
So I got a thin bit of wire and bits of cloth and cleaned off the ball and inside of the glass gauge ,until the ball was bouncing around freely and screwed it back on.
This time when I slowly refilled , the ball rose smoothly until it reached the top centre of the glass covering , behind it , a red,warning dot.
I discovered that I had initially overfilled by about 3/4 litre
