I've got a DK40SE and the manual states you can use gear oil or tractor hydraulic transmission oild for the front axle. I was wondering which one everyone is using?

I use Rotella. Great oil, great price.

I'm surprised that they say either. There's a big difference in viscosity between the two. My tractor specifies gear oil and for an application that is low speed with high tooth contact pressure, that sounds like the right answer to me.

I and it seems many others use 80-90 gear oil.

I'm not sure I totally trust the Kioti owners manual. I mean, having just read mine, there are parts of it that hardly make sence. It's not hard to tell it was not written by someone whose first language is english.

I'm reading section 6 right now and it's almost laughable. I'm suprised this was published as is.

That is odd. I had the same experience with my old CK20 manual but I was impressed that the new DKse series manual was much improved. I don't have it with me to check on section 6 however. I also thought the bigger maintenance manual was pretty clearly written (or at least carefully edited) by a US born engineer (technically precise with perhaps imperfect English but clearly not a haphazard translation).

I wasn't going to bother with the maintenance manual, I figured if it was anything like the owners manual it'd be useless. I try to check out a copy.

go ahead and check out section 6 on the Three-Point hitch. just some examples:

  • A rear wheel-tread must be wider than normal when a draft work done and you drive down the slope.
  • Instead of applying a balance weight, never try to load a person or any other object.
  • Be aware and cautious about the surroundings of your tractor turning round if any strangers or object.

For the Top Link
Hole A - Haulage is not required
Hole B - heavy haulage
Hole C - Light haulage

then on the next page it says use A or B if haulage not required and C if haulage required as a tiller.

 While those with years of experience could probably figure some of this stuff out, I bet someone new to tractors would be confused.

My boy's bought me a shop manual for my CK20 for Christmas and I found it to be very thorough in some areas and very lacking in others and in some places things are lost in translation but I'm still happy to have even so. Gary

Yes, it is bad but I've seen worse writing and grammar on TBN. I wouldn't bet the house but it still seems as though it was written by a native English speaking engineer or technical writer with either no review or review by a piss poor editor. Real Korenglish is not just unclear but much funnier.:)

There were a few examples like that in the maintenance manual but I am generally very impressed with it. Take a look at it if you do anything more than oil/filter changes on your own.
