I just bought a YM1500D but have been checking this site for about 8 years when I bought my 1401D.This tractor did not want to start and had no steering when I bought it.It otherwise seemed in good shape for being 30yrs old.It is only in the single digits for high temp this week in Minnesota,so not starting is common. The Deisel in the tank looked merky so I drained it into a pan,After an hour I went to dump the pan it was half ice,the fuel filter was bowl was solid ice. After Filling with fresh deisel and using a heat gun to heat up the injector lines for 2-3hrs It started up and seemes to run good.Where the steering arm attaches to the front axle is sheered smooth. It will need a steering arm and king pin/spindle.Does anyone have any advice on disasembling the the front axle and replacing these parts?

Welcome to the Yanmar forum of TBN. Minnesota can be very cold. We just had a cold snap and my diesel fuel in the tractor (supposedly rated for -30:rolleyes:) promptly converted to paraffin wax and plugged the filter but royally.

I would suggest first a parts book and a conversation with a dealer that can get you some aftermarket parts for your tractor. I do not know of any in Minnesota, but Wayne is in Ohio, Hoye in Texas and there are others scattered around the country. If you talk to Wayne, he probably could send you an after market parts catalog by email that would have what you need.

As far as advice on tearing down the front hubs. Yanmar has several different designs on this. The 1500 is a very popular tractor and you should not have any problems finding the parts that you need.

all the best,

Mike

Thanks for your reply MJ, thanks for the info on parts, you must have very similar weather in Poland.I have not needed many parts for my 1401D,it has been very good to me,I'm hoping I'll have good luck with this 1500D.I was able to get it in my garage and am planning to take apart the left front axle today.I have learned that 1500D used two bell housings and different front axles for each. This one has a cast bell housing.I am hoping I won't find other problems after taking the left side off the axle.I do have a Yanmar parts diagram/list mostly in Japanese.I'll post on what I find after hopfully getting it apart.

You are looking at around $300 in parts and considerable work. I would consider drilling through the steering arm and king pin and securing with a #6 bolt or double roll pin. Or better yet, drill and tap for a set screw, (use your imagination).

Thanks for your reply's.I did get the left side of axle apart after cleaning it,the wheel hub and bottom assemble dropped down after loosening the bolt for the steering arm.I can see why it would have been easier to drill through the arm where it attaches to the spindle, I don't know how the steering arm could have worn smooth, the splines on the spindle/king pin look OK, I shouldn't need a new one. There was alot of gear oil and dirt covering the inner wheel and left axle, seals must be worn. The other side has some gear oil at the wheel hub.Looks like it will need new seals while I have it apart. The upper gears and bearing is in good shape. The seal on the top of the housing and the very large one in the middle look like they would come off.Does anyone know how to remove the wheel hub to replace the seals? It is part numbers 61-72 in my Yanmar parts diagram.

After getting seals and a new steeering arm I was able to install new seals a new bearing and steering arm.The king pin has to come out of the housing to get the stub axle with hub out the side of the knuckle. The top bearing is pressed on the king pin. After removing it,the stub axle comes out the side of the housing after removing a nut on the inner end of the stub axle.I installed a new stub axle bearing, axle bushing that contacts the inner stub axle seal.I was told the seal would fail on the stub axle without a new bushing,I can see why as the old one was not smooth.Installed all new seals when assembling and filled the axle with gear oil (2 Pints). The front axle works great and with the new seals doesn't leak a drop. Thanks for your help.
