JD 2210
I see JD has a front-mounted dethatcher available for their X-series, but nothing for the 2210. Does anyone have an after market model that they use and like? I use the JD MCS and would like to cut down on the number of passes I make this coming spring on yard clean up. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Sorry--can't help with a front dethatcher, but after owning mine for a couple seasons I wouldn't want any other. The obvious downside is you can't vacuum at the same time, but my brother and I team up--I run the dethatcher on my tractor and he follows behind with his tractor and the vacuum. This particular one is 5 feet, but the guy who builds them has 6 to 10 foot models as well.

You are correct, JD does not make one for the 2210/2305.
When I had my X500, I had the front dethatcher. I then bought
a 2305. Dethatcher would not fit.
I therefore, made my own bracket to work on the 2305. 2 bolts and
it's mounted to my 2305. What takes longer, is putting the bracket
on the tractor that supports the lift handle of the dethather.
I also had to make the lift handle longer to work with the 2305.
But, even with that, probably 5 minutes total to put everything on.

It's made by a very small company (1 guy working out of a pole barn) called CMP Attachments. I stumbled across his ad on Cragslist and he actually supplies a few of local JD dealers with them (they paint them green and add some margin).

The weight of the unit itself combined with the weight of the 3 point system (you leave the control lever for the 3 point in the down position so the dethatcher "floats" and can move up or down) provides the necessary downforce.

It really does an amazing job and with 5 feet per pass it takes very little time to dethatch.

I bought JD's front dethatcher for my X595 this fall, but too late to get much use of it. It was pricey -- with 8" extensions to make it 54" -- $450. The dealer gave me $100 trade-in for an old Stihl chainsaw.
Before buying it, I found at least 2 companies online by googling "dethatchers", and who make equivalent units. Their prices were on par with JD, so why bother -- I know I can get decent support from the local dealer. Anyway, there's companies out there, just do some websearching.

I've been using the JD front-mounted dethatcher on my X300R for 2 years now. Works super in combo with my mower deck and rear bagger!! Makes Spring cleanup a sweet sweep... (say that real fast 4-5 times!) :D

Regardless of the manufacturer - a front mounted dethatcher with a mounted bagger is the hot ticket - IMO.

(There's always a but.... watch out for dried grass buildup on top of your deck - it's not a good situation with fast moving belts and pulley's!!)
