The manual for a 155D says the front diff capacity is 3.2 quarts. The fill plug on my 1300D says 2.2L (I thought it was perhaps from a different machine). I have been told that the 155D is the US equivalent to the 1300D. I changed the front gear oil this weekend and added 3 quarts. Now oil is leaking around the right front axel. Could it be that it is overfilled? It did not leak before it was changed. When I remove the fill plug on top of the axel I can see oil covering the axel, so it is very full.

One more question; will my 1300D handle a 48" rotary cutter? or should I be looking for a 42"?

Thanks for your help, -Keith

I've changed the fluid on the front differential. there should be a check plug, when oil runs out of that the differential is filled. Mine runs a 48" bush hog easily, though it cuts down brush easier than thick grass.

Good luck

A neighbor down the street mows 5 flat acers once every 2 weeks with a minty looking 1300, and he uses a 48" mower.

Looks like he had to finagle the toplink connection though.

On many occasions I've stopped to talk to him, and once he even loaned the tractor to my brother to mow an adjacent lot that my brother was building his house on.. On the lot it was tall thick grass, and the owner sent the tractor over with a slightly small cutter.. I guess it was a 40 or 42" whatever is the next size smaller.

I would assume the machine on a flat surface, with low grass runs a 4' fine... but in thick stuff needs the smaller one.

Either way, it was a sweet machine. I keep trying to buy it off the old guy.

Reminds me of a small bolens tractor.. and I've seen them with 4' hogs... etc..

A guy up the street mows a 2 ac piece a couple times a year with a 1500 and 4' mower.

Others here will give you more specific info.. I don't own a 1300.. closest I've got to something that small is an IH cub with 4' mower.

Keith,

How much oil were you able to drain out? Significantly less than what you put back in? Most likely, you have a leak at the king pin, where there's a seal at the top. On my Iseki 4x4, the king pin/sleeve bearing pivot point is oil flooded....no grease there. Your may be the same. You can run it with a low oil level in the axle housing so it won't leak but the sleeve will wear faster without lube, and will be harder to steer. My tractor's front end is apart right now to fix this very same problem I'm describing. If the bearing sleeve wears, no problem...it's meant to be replaced. If the king pin wears, you will need a machine shop to turn it and sleeve it, but still do-able. In my case, the seals in the wheel bearing/hub area were leaking too, and oil was leaking down the wheel.
