John Deere 3020
I have a 3020 with farmhand f248 loader that lifts very slow and jerky on first lift of the day. i have to run it through a full cycle, then it works great. I recently drained and filled because had a cylinder rebuilt, replumbed the hoses and changed the oil and filter. I had this problem before but thought that a new filter would do it. I have run it through a few cycles now so I would assume all the air is worked out.
Any ideas?

Do you have your RPM's up when you are lifting...? You may already know but you did not mention your experience level ...You have to have your throttle up for power to the loader.

The only other thing is be sure you are using the right hydraulic fluid. Hope that helps...others will offer more I am sure. Good Luck

Just because you get rid of air one time, doesn't mean it won't apear again.

If you have an air leak in the suction hose or the fluid is cavitating in the valve or cyl, air will develop, and it makes for a continuous process of getting rid of air.

Check the suction hose carefully, and tighten some more.

If you loosen some of the fittings on the cyl, and you hear air or see bubbles, then you know you have air, otherwise there should be no slack between the time you move the lever and something moves.

The reservoir might be low also.

I'm not a beginner, I've been running equipment for years, I guess I should have been more specific and said that I've tried all the simple things. I am using John Deere 303, the only trans-hydraulic to be used on the 3020, I am aware that just because I get the air out once doesn't mean it won't appear again, that is obviously what is happening. My reservoir is not low, that would be the first thing to check. Up on the throttle is also a given. I should have asked what other possible causes could be introducing air into the system instead of just asking for basic help. I really appreciate the help, I just didn't know there were people out there owning tractors that didn't have basic knowledge. I like the suction hose recommendation, I didn't think of that, I'll give it a try. I have also checked for loose fittings, changed the filter, changed the fluid and monitored the level of the reservoir, which is also the transmission housing. I'm pretty stubborn like most guys that would have use for a tractor, so this is my last resort after trying everything I could think of and needed a fresh eye. Thanks and let me know if you can think of anything else.
