Anyone know if there are front fenders available for the X540 series tractors? Will the fenders from the 700 series fit? I would love be able to keep grass from getting thrown on the deck by the front tires, not to mention they would look nice too!

luv2mow,

Deere does not offer a front fender kit for the X500 Select Series tractors. I agree it would be nice to have as I have a new X324 and witness the same thing. The X300 and X500 series are common platform so most accessories are cross compatible, hence my comment.

This would a perfect opportunity for an aftermarket kit. I guess I could put my design skills to use and model something up during lunch or after hours at work if there were enough interest.

Later,

Bobby

What would you attach the fenders to? Would you have them follow with the tire, or the tire turn under a fixed fender?

I was thinking about the same thing. The fenders should be close to the tire, and mounted to the spindle. So they move with the tire(s) IMO anyway. The mounts will need to be quite sturdy too.

My deck has been getting covered with sand, and grass every time I use the tractor. It is a pain to clean.

After each use, I use an air compressor to blow away the grass and dirt on top of the deck. Then a garden hose with quick-connector to wash the grass from under the deck. Most of the grass on top of the deck seems to come from the clippings being blown by the wind rather than the front tires so not sure how effective fenders would be?

In my case, (Florida's sandy soil.) the mess is definately from the front tires. I seriously doubt that any fenders will ever find their way on to my front wheels, as they will probably cause more problems than solve.

Plans to move to a different home with a place to house my wood shop, along with a larger space to mow, will help. I have a large air compressor in my shop that would help keep my tractor clean. I try to keep the water hose away as much as possible. The water here is not great, and a little grass on the deck is the lesser of the two evils. I usually keep the deck clean with a soft brush and my shop vac.

Thanks all for the replies! Oh well no fenders available for the x3 and x5 series. Maybe someday some aftermarket ones will come out.

I have an X485SE and front fenders were part of the SE package. I had the plastic fender off yesterday because the fender's frame had bent while I was mowing in the ditch in front of my house. The frame is little more than a couple of peices of modified 1/2" bar stock. If I had see this post earlier, I would have snapped some pics. IMHO, they aren't worth much. Since the front wheels aren't drive wheels on any X3xx or X4x5 or X5xx, I don't think they do much to protect your deck from debris. I still have to use either a compressor or leaf blower to blow my deck off after every mow. As for looks - meh. I could take them or leave them. Trust me, you aren't missing much...
