John Deere 755
I have a John Deere model 755. How does one remove the front grill assembly? I believe I have stuff up in there (brought in by mice), as the tractor overheats too easily. Thanks.

The front grille just snaps into place. With the hood closed, stand directly in front and grab each side. jerk forward to unsnap the grille. If you have front weights, you need to raise front of hood slightly for clearance.

Thanks. I'll give it another try. I had tried that, but it seemed so tight that I thought there was something that needed to be disconnected first.

Yes it "snaps" in place…if you have to pry a little at the rear sides as that is where it comes over a little flange and locks…BIG FYI….if you run it over/lose it the replacement is $500+. I did just that last year so now it is fixed and I have some back up copper wire holding it at the top under the hood and they go from a hole in the front cover….. to the rear side of the little flip retainers for the motor side covers on….I twist/untwist to access my rad. and battery (up front on 955)…love my tractor but parts are $$$$$

If the tractor is overheating, first make sure the screen in front of the radiator is clear. Pull the air cleaner hose up out of the way and the screen can be lifted to check. No need to remove grill to get to that.

The grill can be sticky to remove. A good pull should get it loose but it can be difficult to get a good grip to do that. Removing the engine side panels can help, or I sometimes use a tool for removing car door panels. It just pries the grill forward from a side panel.

Thanks for the help. I finally got around to taking it off and cleaning the insides of things mice brought in. Getting it back on was a bit tricky, but now I now how it works. Thanks again.

Interesting, I never knew it was supposed to just "snap" into place. Mine appears to have been locked down by a PO with a pair of screws accessible when the hood is open. Figured that's how they were "supposed" to be.

I think I'll keep it that way, my budget doesn't include replacement grilles.

I got lucky and found brand new in the box grille with the emblems for $385. Still not something I want to repeat purchase. I secured mine with two 3/8" bolts. The flange on the top of the grille that slides over the core support where the hood hinges attach has two 3/8" holes in it. I marked the core support with the grille in place, removed the grille and drilled two 3/8" holes in the core support. Once the grille is in place, I just drop a 3/8" bolt into each hole. This keeps the grille from vibrating off or getting knocked loose by a branch, etc.

That's basically what was done on mine. One of these days I'll refine the method so I don't need any tools to remove it. At present I do and it's irritating.

It's a must-do on any x55 in my opinion. The grilles are just crazy expensive and come off way too easy.
