Does the front knucle seal usually require a bearing replacement? I am going to repair a badly leaking seal and notice some play in the l\f knuckle and wonder if the bearings are worn ? Is this is difficult or rather easy repair ,its a 336d

Thanks !!

I have changed the seal on my ym2002 but it is a little different than yours. I did not have to replace bearings. I think on hand inspection would be the best determining factor. You may have a manual. Will try and post pictures on a JD 950. Suspect it is real close to your 336.

Usually, if you just have a leaking knuckle seal, you will not need to replace the bearings. But if your bearings get loose it can cause the knuckle seals to leak just by letting them wobble around. We have the 336 4wd section on our website now so you can sort of see what it looks like inside (links below).

I replaced the seal in my 3110D about the same as the 336. I didn't replace the bearing.I did remove the gears from the housing. Mine had shims where you take the gear housing cover off

I too had a bad leak on one side of my 3110D. I replaced the seals and no leaks anymore. And I too have some play in the wheel. I've been told that a little play is good and it should be within 1/8" to 1/4" at the top of the tire. Usually a warn out bearing makes an audible sound (obvious) and you can feel it too when you spin the tire by hand.

Pay attention to where you pull the shims out as they are essential in keeping the two drive gears aligned.
