I want to find a front mount blade for this unit. My question is- how many different blade models did they make, and what do I need to attach it to the hydraulic arm below the gas tank? So what model #s do I look for. Thanks

All I can find of the IH made front blades is the model # 1A-60. And believe it or not, you already have it. That belly blade was designed to be used on the front, or mid-mount. If you can fabricate the mounting brackets, and a lift bar, you got half the battle won.

Here is a link to an online manual showing it, and how it hooks up. You'll need to scroll down to see the complete manual, and it is a PDF file of the OEM IH manual for that blade. http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Su...eling and Grader Blade/A1-60 Grader Blade.pdf

I did a, pretty much nationwide search on Craigslist, and did find one for sale, but it's in PA. At least you can see the asking price. Probably not bad if you need one. Not sure how rare they are, but finding one for sale might be a rare occurrence.

Thanks DJ. Yes I knew that the belly blade on mine could be mounted up front, but I didn't know what model it is or if there were different models. I want to have two blades on it at once- so I don't have to connect and disconnect- and so I can use one then the other quickly.

Notice the bar with the plate in the photo of the one for sale in PA. that plate bolts to the engine block or torsion tube to provide additional support. Plus you need something to connect to the hydraulic arm. So, I guess, IH made one basic blade and then different connectors depending on where you want to attach it.

Thanks for doing the search. I'm going to contact the guy in PA and see if by chance he is driving his pickup to California next week. Wonder if it could be broken down into packages that would qualify for UPS.

It could probably be broken down to ship UPS, but I'm wondering if it might be easier/less expensive to break it down, then build a, maybe 30" X 30" X 36" tall crate to stand everything up, banding it together, and wedging so it doesn't shift, or fall over, then ship by truck. Weight has a lot to do with the cost of shipping, but so does floor space on a truck, especially shipping that far.

I bought quick attach head, and bucket for my little Bobcat a few years back from Worthington Ag. parts, and that's how they shipped it, and in a crate about that size. Pretty sure it came out of the Iowa yard, and here to central Ohio, and delivered to my door, shipping was $200.00. Crate and all, it probably weighed 250 lbs.

I do know freight company's do have shipping calculators. So that might give you an idea of what it would cost.

One problem I can see with having both blades on at once, is the lift mechanism. Looking at yours, then going to the IH online parts store, it's hard to tell, but it looks like there is only one rock shaft arm on the right side. If it had two, like on the left side, each blade could be lifted/lowered independently. With only one, one of the blades would have to be pinned in the raised position, while using the other.

Just some food for thought...

DJ- you are right about the left/right linkage. I'm already imagining a cable system by which the left hydraulic arm could raise and lower one of the blades independently of the other. Just what I need- another project.

Thanks for the manual. The manual doesn't say what the total weight of the attachment is. Do you know of any literature that might have that?

No I don't... But a rough guess if you could weigh yours, plus 100#-150# for the lift bar & bracket, and top blade extension, ought to be close.
