Has any one come across a front blower that would fit a JD 4110. The Model 47 from Deere is only 47" wide but the tractor is 54" to the outside of the tires. Some body at Deere in their limited wisdom thought that would work. It would if you only get 2" of snow at a time. I'm talking feet some times.

I don't know what Deere recommends for the 4110. After I bought the tractor, mower, and a 5' hydroturn blade I'm still in sticker shock. It lists for more than the past 6 corvettes I bought. I have to admit the four wheel drive would work great on my hillside drive with a blower but that would be a future purchase. Let me know the combination you come up with. jr

Deere recommends the 47 blower, but as I said it's not wide enough. I was looking for another company that makes one that would fit.

I have a 4115 w/ 47" FM blower. I was skeptical with it more narrow than the wheelbase. Dealer said don't worry, it will eat what you throw at it. No snow worth discussing this year but, last year it ate anything I threw at it. Not having had a real good dump of snow, last year, I decided to see what it would do with the 3' packed snow on my woodroad that had not been cleared all winter. Admittedly, I had to go a bit slow but, the blower threw it all 50' off into the woods, clearing about 300' of 3' deep snow in maybe 15-20 minutes. Price? Yup, choked on it but beats turning around to use the rear blade or having bought a rear blower. JMHO

classic,

Not sure how to link this but, if interested, search my posts for "Front blower and RB"... from 13-Mar-05. Pic's of 47" blower at work. It works for me.

and when your done looking at that photo, try this one: included under "Blower taking a bigg bite" 16 Dec 05. Look at the first pic in particular. Tad more than 2 inches...... Judge for yourself.

Try erskine attachements-they have front mounted snowblowers that are rear pto powered. Very intresting.

The 47" blower was designed to work in conjunction with the R1 tires at 46.4" max width. You need to use the bar treads to have it function as designed. Consider a 54" p/a blade with a quick hitch. Half the price, a quarter of the fuss, and you won't need a cab to keep you dry. It would also require the bar treads because when angled it covers about the same as the blower, but the whole package won't cost any more than the blower alone and you will love the blade.

kl,

I use R3's with chains when needed. Works for me, especially with lawn work. I notice you have a paved drive. Which equipment works best depends a lot on what surface you are on, or length of drive, houses or just woods around you, etc.... And then there's a lot of personal preference. I don't think I could have cleared that wood road with a plow blade unless I kept it clear all winter. So many choices... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

No, I have a 500 foot stone driveway. But you are right, for what you did (3' of packed snow from several snowfalls) the blower works best. All I am saying is that for everyday snow removal on a diveway either sone or blacktop, the blade is faster and easier 90% of the time. I use the rubber edge and it works awesome. I also have a jd cx loader so if I needed to push some banks back, it is eaily put on and then removed for the blade again. The blade however will move alot of snow even with my little 2305 behind it.

Kieth,

"..500' of stone..." That should keep you busy. Hope your wife understands how much "hard work" that seat time is /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I agree, the blade, in general, will usually be faster than the blower, especially front mounted angle blade setup like yours and a rubber edge (NICE!). And, when the banks get high, you can bucket them away. Guess I just like the nice clean edges the blower leaves and not having to change to the FEL. Also, you're right about the blowing snow back at you. 1/2 way down the 600' of stone drive, I turn the corner and the wind is always a problem for about 50' until I can make the corner and spin the shoot the other way. Another drawback to the blower is the dirt, mud, stone, and snow pile the Town plows up at the end of the drive. I have to use the RB on that to keep the junk out of the blower. Still, I just love to see that plume go flying off into the woods, leaving those clean edges on the drive. Lots of personal preference here, and I don't mind a little additional seat time as it can usually be enough to avoid one more thing on the "Honey-doo" list /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Snowing again here today but, not enough to go play with /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Maybe next year we'll get a real winter again.

I hope the info and choices discussion is useful for those contemplating what may best meets their needs.

I have an Erskine front mount snowblower which is powered from the rear PTO. I have had it for about 8 years and put a total of about $100.00 of repairs in it. It is powered off my JD4500. I love the thing. It will discharge snow and stones alike without difficulty, meaning do not turn discharge shoot toward any dwellings, it'll make a hole through it...I speak of experience...a nice 6 inch hole in the barn wall. Ooops! I recommend them to anyone. Send me your email address and I'll send a couple of pictures to you.

I have the JD4100 and the 47" blower, and have had no problems. I have a relatively steep, 1200' long paved driveway and I can let 18-24" of heavy, wet snow build up before clearing the driveway with ease. Never had a traction issue at all. I bought the chains, dont use them. I have more issues in the spring w/ the mud than I do in the winter with the snow.

I have not used the plow at all since getting the front snowthrower for tractor. Does a neater job, and I dont get 10' tall snowpiles along the driveway edges.

JMHO.
