Hello all,
and I hope everybody has a Wonderful Holiday Season!

I am inquiring about front snowblowers for the large chassis JD compacts. I know about the Erskine units, but was wondering if there have been any other brand of front mount snowblowers that people are using. I would be interested in knowing how happy you are with the front snowblowers. Also, anyone running the Erskine unit, feel free to post your experiences, and satisfaction with that unit.
Prices on these have risen lately, to a point where I need to
see if there are any other options for these JD tractors.

Thanks in advance,
Dutch

Dutch,
Iam in the same boat as you. The Erskine is a fine piece of equipment, it should be for the price. I am researching using a hydraulic driven skid steer blower on the front. I am going to use the power beyond connection on the tractor and put it through a valve and route it out to the loader arms. I figure it should be half of the cost of the Erskine and a lot easier to install and remove, plus allows the loader to remain on the tractor. But you know how it goes: It all sounds good on paper !

Dutch,

In mid-December I went through a purchase decision on the best way to go for removing snow using my JD 4320 on my ranch roads. After talking to my JD dealer and pricing blower vs/ front blade vs/ rear blade options, I opted for a Bush Hog Series 50, 84", 3-pt rear blade (cost new $716 and came in JD green color.) I've used it many times in the last 2 weeks and have cleared miles of lanes and roads in fresh snow falls of up to 7" each for both dry powder and heavy wet snow. I am completely satisfied with the performance and versatility of using this rear blade system which has an offset adjustment for angling the blade wide of the rear tires. I clear mainly gravel roads and have found it extremely useful to have the versatility of turning the blade around for rear blading the roads to smooth the gravel on my final passes.

Thanks for the replies,,
my customer bought the Erskine, it should be here this week. I think I also sold his Curtis front blade for his loader... so he'll be happy. It's just such an expensive snowblower.
So far this year, the snow hasn't been bad anyway, warmer, an inch here or there,,, seems winter came and left!
