front weight

Hi everyone
Here is a quick question on front end weight. I've removed my loader in order to make the tractor smaller and easier to move around this winter during snowblowing operations. When I hooked up my blower the front end came off the ground. The manual recommended 200 pounds of weight but that does not sound like enough. I think my blower weights about a 1000 pounds. Any other recommendations for the amount of weight? It is a TC 33D.

200lb will make a big difference. Not sure if more will readily fit a Class II.

I do the same thing with removing the FEL for snowblowing. I used the EZ Weight system and added weight to my front wheels. They are easy to put on & remove. Go to the PHOTOS section and you can see them in my gallery.

Remember your high school geometry... the rear wheel is the fulcrum, the distance from the added front weight on the front of the tractor is the lever. The 1000# weight on the 3pt is very close tot he fulcrum. The longer the lever, the less front weight needed to offset it. Also.. you don't need 1000# of front weight to offset 1000# of rear weight. Most tractors that are 'mid' size say.. 2500# and up handle at least 500# on the rear without light front problems.. that leave you something like 500# or less to offset.. and that 200# on the end of that long lever will make a huge difference.

A few 50# weight plates on the front of my 7610S makes a huge difference on how it handles with a 3pt 10" mower on the back of it when going road speed.

I only use 100# total on the front wheels to offset the weight of a 60" snowblower. It makes a world of difference! A little bit of weight in the right place is an amazing thing.

I prefer the EZ weights to bumper mounted weights because if I need the FEL I don't have to remove the weights from the front bumper to reinstall the FEL. Having the FEL and the EZ weights is overkill, but on a cold winter day I don't necessarily like messing with steel that is just as cold as the air temps.

I agree. If I had a FEL.. the bumper weights would not be my choice.. and I agree about the cold weather.. nothing like crushing a finger that is already throbbing from the cold.
