Front Wheel Woes

The outer oil seal went out on my Jinma 354. The tractor only has 140 hours on it, so I was not expecting it. One metal side of the seal fell off and was ground up in the gears. Does anyone have an idea what may have caused the issue? I really don't want to replace the seal, only to have the next fail, if the issue is due to something else inside the wheel.

Your thoughts, ideas, and experience is greatly appreciated.

Give a little more info. As far as I know there is not a seal on the wheel Robby

he usual cause of blown out seals like that is poorly adjusted wheel bearings. Too much lay i the bearings allows the movement to chew up the seals. After you replace the seal, be sure to adjust the bearings so there is no excessive play in the wheel. While you're in that area, adjust the play in your tie rod ends. Jinma tractors have tie rod ends that are adjustable so you can take up the wear in them as needed. Keeping them snugged up so there is no slop will keep youir whole front behaving much better.

After you replace the seal, be sure to adjust the bearings so there is no excessive play in the wheel.

Thank you for the response. Is the bearing adjustment controlled only by the two bolts in the rear of the axil? If not, how do you remove slack?

My JM 354 has always leak front wheel seals the vendor that sold the tractor told me to just keep putting grease in the front hub zerk and I have to point of grease coming out and all over the pretty white wheels. Now I've just got another greasy farm tractor. bjr

Thanks. Mine were dry until the seal fell apart and was ground inside the wheel. At that point the oil gushed out. Hopefully I can get everything back together and snug enough to prevent a reoccurance.
