After wrestling with this problem for months, I believe I've finally cured it. I could not pinpoint the problem as it was erratic and seemed to elude testing. I even plumbed in flowmeters and pressure guages on the front axle so I could monitor it in use and when it locked up. NOTHING.

Anyway, even though it wasn't throwing a code, if I unplug the rear axle speed sensor, it cures the problem. Neither I nor the dealer can explain why, but it seems to have cured the problem. On newer models they don't even use the rear sensor. This is on an early model, bought in summer of 2003.

Hope this helps someone else.

Sounds like your tyres/tires are either worn differing amounts or they are not inflated to the correct pressures causing axle wind up . The speed sensor may be in charge of monitoring the speeds and making adjustments .

This has seemed to fix my toolcat too. Do you know of any way to get the error code to go away ? 50-14 rear wheel speed sensor no signal.

Thanks

I got a new sensor but they're VERY expensive. I just don't want the light on and they didn't think they could re-program it. Even if they could, the dealer rate is $110/hour and I'm 2 hours from the dealer. That's $440 plus taxes etc. just for the mileage here/back to do the update. So, for me, the sensor is cheaper.

Thanks BLES. I'm like you, I don't like seeing or hearing the error. But a least it's working good now.

I think my toolcat is the same model yours is. I got it in Nov. of 2003.

I got just over 1800 hrs on it.

Thanks again

Chicken Man:

I'm curious.... if you're ever at your dealer or if you ever want to replace the sensor... it's part # 6679852. I'd like to know the cost at your dealer for this. Generally we get ripped off big on the north side of the 49th parallel. I paid $423.34 plus taxes from the Bobcat dealer that claims the lowest parts prices of all Bobcat dealers in this area.

I will let you know if or when I replace it. I'm think I remember the front one being very expensive when I replaced it a couple of years ago.

Yes, when it starts to "drag", flip the box up and unplug the rear sensor. It will work fine but willtrigger the 50-14 code. This is on a 2003. Not sure about later models.
