Hey folks,

Looking to get a new box blade for my tractor (52HP) looking at a new Frontier BB5072... The only reservation i have with the BB5072 (current version 2020) is the outside most shanks are set in about 6"-8" from the endplate as opposed to other brands which appear to be more around 4" away from the end plates....my main use will be cutting ditches, cutting ground for landscaping and maintaining the driveway.

Any particular reason for this shank spacing..One would think evenly distributed along the length of the cross bar would be better instead of all in the middle in an approximate 4ft span. I am likely missing something here.

What do you think

Thanks
Mitch

I can't answer your question why... but... are you hooked on the green paint? Take a look at the Woods and Land Pride offerings. They have shanks spaced closer to the end plates and appear to be a bit better built in the section that attaches to the tractor. The Land Pride 72-inch unit actually has 7 shanks. Keep in mind the Frontier units are made by someone else anyway.

Nope not hung up on the green paint...only considering it because they have fairly reasonable price of $1300... Looked at a Woods BSS72 at the local Kubota spot and they want $1650 before tax. I did recently check the Landpride at another dealer last week which was $1295...but notice that the steel thickness on various parts is thinner particularly on the end plates. I was probably over thinking the shank spacing.

Which model Landpride are you referring to with the 7 shanks?

I was looking at the LP BB25-series which are rated to 55 HP. The BB2572 has 7-shanks and the end plates are 3/8-inch, same as the Frontier BB5072. Below is the spec sheet for the 25-series.
