The winters can be very cold in northern Maine. I spent a few days up there at the house a few weeks ago and found the unheated basement floor had about an inch of very fine frost covering it. Did the contractor forget to put down a vapor barrier before he poured the slab?

Maybe, but if the floor is cold enough, it'll condense and freeze water out of the air in the room, regardless of how well the floor is sealed on the soil side.

Thanks BG...the heat was off and it was the dead of winter....I hope you're right.
