frozen cables on 3644

got a new r 3644 last week, each time I have used it the loader controls(cable operated) and throttle have been frozen, live in the upper peninsula of MI - has been in the mid teens this week, Any one have any experience with this? Have not called the dealer yet-dont want to take half a day to run it down o him for a 1/2 hour fix. hoping someone has some insight on what I could use to dry out the cables and prevent this from happening. If I leave the tractor run for 15 min they free up. Tractor is kept in an un-heated shed. While I'm on it- any one have a 3644 out there- how have you liked it?

Most likely a combination of moisture and cold that is freezing it. I would get some wd40 or cable lube and keep spraying it and working it back and forth till you get it lubed up. If this doesnt work might be able to get a replacement cable and install yourself if covered under warrenty. Doesnt look that hard to install.

Id have to agree, Spay down the cable ends and work it in. Also spray the valve as well, try to spray under the boot

I would call the dealer and tell him I did not have time to come to the shop or wait on him but ask if there was anything that you can do without affecting your warranty. You dont want to do something that might cause issues later on

It may well be frozen moisture - make that WATER in the cable housings.
I would try to FIX it, not just lube it.
SOMEHOW far too much water has got in there, check inner wire boots for MAJOR leaks.
I would have the cables out, hang them up to dry in a warm place, THEN lube them, replace any damaged or missing inner wire boots - and try again.

my 2840 sometimes refuses to play. the curl function of the fel requires a few munites to come around i keep the tractor indside a portable garage, sometimes it rains indside almost as much as it does outside but besides that it kind of a pain when you need it to work.

Thanks for the advice guys, I can not see any damage to any of the exterior boots, will take the cables off this weekend to dry them out and then lube, Seems this is the same problem as Shakin is having, same control on loader , leave it run for 15 min and it frees up on its own, so far mother nature is on my side, we have had snow about every other day so I can work ( Read-Play) with the tractor and blower, I am sure the pleasure will wear off by the end of winter though, will have to show my wife how to run the blower by then.

power-sports industry uses an adapter that fastened to the end of a cable to inject and force a lubricate into the length of the cable casing. I would imagine something like a white lithium based grease. Anyway, this reduces the ability of water to penetrate the cable casing and therefore reduces the freezing.

I second the recommendation of "MontanaKid" and suggest using a "Cable Lubricator". Browse the link below, the cable lubricator is the first item at the top. The company has a 1-800 number for orders. The "Red Line" lubricant is a very good lubricant to use for this and other lubrications jobs you may have. The smooth operation of a cable after lubrication is most remarkable.

Actually they have had those cable lubricators for years and years and years. I used to use them in the 70s. I also used wd40 to displace any water in the cable jacket out since that is what it is made for.
