No one has mention a shop press. I have a 20 ton press, with a split 1 in thick bearing plate. the bearing plate would go behind the flange, and the hydraulic jack would easily press the hub off. An auto shop or machine shop would have a shop press. I use it to press bearings off axles, and to straighten shafts, push out large pines.

Darn, I've been looking at those things for years. This could have been my excuse to get one.

Glad you got it off. Not to wish you any bad luck, but it it happens to another motor, try your drum puller again, but put the nut back on the motor shaft - you can even put a center device (short piece of heavy wall pipe inside the nut to protect the end of the motor shaft). I probably confused a lot of people by calling the puller a drum puller - think 1950 Dodge/Chrysler - those drums were installed on tapered shafts that would really stick after some years. I remember dad driving around for a couple of weeks when we needed to fix the drum brakes with the axle nuts loosened a couple of turns with no luck - that why I still have a serious drum puller. A rear brake job back then was great fun!
The suggestions for wax or grease on hub reinstall are good. I found my 1430 hubs (which are captured by the wheel housing - you cannot get the motors out without taking the hub off) would come off a lot easier with some grease applied on installation to keep down corrosion.
If the motor housing is not cracked, you might want to buy a seal and shaft bearing kit if you are going to rebuild it - replacing the bearings after banging on them is probably a good idea - I have learned that metal fragments in a closed loop hydraulic system get very expensive in a very short time!
