Foton FT404 w/Koyker 160 FEL and a Dig-It Towable Backhoe
I am looking at a ditch witch A420 backhoe attachment for my FT404 but I am a little concerned that my hydraulics cant handle it. The specs on tractor data dot com say I only have a 10L hydraulic system. (2.7gallons) and only 5.5GPM flow. It doesnt seem this wouldn't be near enough capacity or flow to drive a backhoe attachment, especially one this size. Any help or guidance from you all would be greatly appreciated.

I agree that you would probably want more fluid volume to dissipate heat and more flow to ensure smooth functioning, particularly in compound moves. One solution is to use a PTO-driven outboard hydraulic pump and a separate reservoir mounted on the hoe. That's how the Kubota hoe I use is done and it works just dandy.

You could verify your pump's flow rate by checking the model number on it. Something like a CBN13 would mean that it has 13 cc's volume per revolution and you just multiply by the operating rpm and that gives you the theoretical flow rate. NO matter what your pump flow is, less than 3 gallons of fluid isn't sufficient to dissipate much heat unless you have a heat exchanger i the system.

Rich thank you again.. I was able to verify that it only has a 5.5GPM flow rate but am still trying to find out if it only has a 2.7 gal capacity. If it is that small, I also think that is not near enough fluid to disipate much heat. But looking at pictures of many of the pto driven ones I am not seeing that they carry much more fluid. I havent seen any with a large tank on them most of them look under 5 gallons as well, so it still has me wondering. I need to do more homework to find out

JJ thanks for the info about that pump.. So if I get what your saying is I could buy any of them that my frame can support and convert them to pto powered instead of hooking into my remotes?

Yes, you will need to add a PTO pump and tank kit to the backhoes, most of the smaller 3-point backhoes are requiring around 8 gpm, we were selling the Ansung Tomcat Backhoes for several years, however since the tractor parts business has taken off and kept us covered up I stopped selling them last year, I do have 1- TC-650 6'6" left at a discounted price, I think you are talking to Harold about it.I'm selling it as is, even though it is new it has been sitting in our warehouse, I don't have any parts anymore other than a few minor things.Ansung is still selling them and I had another customer that contacted them for parts so if you are interested in it make sure you understand it will not have a warranty if that's important to you
