Early December one of the hub's failed. It was the drive spline in the hub. These hub's are manufactured by Nabtesco in Japan and are used on many excavators including Kobelco, Yanmar to name a few so basically most parts are off the shelf(Nabtesco GM9). There is one difference though with the 140's, the planetry gears are a different ratio and are almost like rocking horse poo to get, just got mine last week.
So I took the new gears to a local manufacture who can make them in 2 weeks, they are on CAD and they will be hardened to Rockwell C60 standard.
If you require these gears PM/ email me for contact details. I will not be acting as an agent, you will deal directly with the manufacture.

For me it is well worthwhile to rebuild as new hub's as quoted by Rayco's agent AUD $11000 per side:shocked:. I can buy a remanned JD engine for less. :confused2:

Do you know why it failed? Was it because the gear oil leaked out or did a bad bearing cause it? The 140 final drives are probably a little too small.

I have no idea way it failed but I learned that Nabtesco also manufacture Hi Dash hubs used on other excavators which I've bad experiences with, the very same component failure. When the hub was striped down it was found the gear set nearest the outside was losing the hardening off the teeth and the metal had wrecked the bearings despite the oil being changed as per the Rayco service manual. There where no oil leaks. It has been recommended to use synthetic oil of the same grade as it dissipates heat better.

Did you not get new final drives in the recall? I had an FTX-140 and Rayco did a fix and installed them in my machine when it was 2 or more years old. They initially installed a system to make sure that the tracks were not overtightened then they built and shipped two new and improved final drives.

How many hours did you have on them? You do all of your own repairs?

These have lasted about 4000hrs.I do as much as I can in the way of repairs. I would have gone out the back door years ago if I had to pay to have this tractor fixed.

Yep cbturf, these are the replaced final drives.
