I have a 3040 Montana that loses power after about an hour of mowing, grading or whatever....does any one use a fuel additive and if so what kind?
Any ideas? Skeet

Only thing I use is Power Service. I use it all year round becuase my dealertold me to. It is good for anti-gel and lubrication all year round.

Are you just losing power or is the tractor shutting down?

I use Power Service in the white bottle the year around.

I mix 3 ounces in 5 gallons of diesel/or 32 ounces in 55 gallons of diesel.

I add a little B20 (bio fuel) to my dino diesel, between 2-5% Bio in the final mix. This is for lubricity only; you can use additives for anti-gel, etc). Read info here Lubricity Additive Study Results - Diesel Place

The results from this study suggest that Power Service is not very good (for improving lubricity).

Lubricity is not your problem but you might consider treating your fuel for it as a preventative measure.

I recommend fuel additives but I kind of doubt it would solve your problem. Additives are primarily a preventative maintenance item not a repair in a bottle. It kind of sounds like your having a heat soak problem. Operating temp OK? Did the problem just happen all of the sudden or has it gradually happened over time?

Was using powerservice but found a new product that works great and seems to be giving us more hours. Now treating our entire 500 gallon tank with it in place of a fungicide and for lubricity - our old 'dear is starting much easier and doesnt smoke nearly as much, very happy with it. Its called Organic Fuel Transformer | Commercial and Industrial | Diesel Fuel Additive and I bought it at www.fueladditivestore.com. We have been using it for two months now and I swear I only fill once a week, down from twice..???!!!!

What does the temperature look like? Is the engine hotter than what it usuually runs at?
With just the info you gave, a fuel aditive isn't going to solve your problem. There are two things on a diesel that will limit power; too little air(i.e restricted air filter) or too little fuel (restricted fuel filter or tank screen, injection pump problem, throttle lever linkage out of adjustment).

Make sure that your air filter is clean. When is the last time you changed the fuel filer? is the trottle rod/linkage binding to limit throttle movement?
