I have a JM 224 The fuel sending unit has acted up ever since I bought the tractor. I pulled the sender out today there is a broken wire inside it . I have read many post about faulty senders. Is there a way to repair it or should I purchase a new one ? Has anyone bought an after market gas cap with a gauge built in (like on a riding lawn mower) . If so where and what kind?

On the oil sender I assume that it is where wire 27 attaches to a Gismo that comes out of the block close to the oil dip stick. My oil pressure started acting up last time I drove the tractor (500 hours) then I had no oil pressure at all . I think it is the sender at fault . Is there an after market part that I can use ?
Thanks Robby

The first thing I would try on the fuel sending unit is fix it. If it looks like too much trouble just order a new one from Tommy or Ronald.

As for the oil pressure sending unit I had mine go out also. To verify I had oil pressure I went and bought a test gauge that simply screws in where the sending unit does. If you want a quick dirty way to check the pump take the sending unit out and with the fuel shut off pulled crank the engine. If oil pumps out the oil pump is working. Check the gauge and wiring and if nothing is wrong order the sending unit also from these guys. Get them both at the same time and the shipping will be less.

Here is a sending unit I used on my 2003 which has the single gauges and one wire going to the sending unit. I got it at AutoZone. If you have cluster gauges or 2 wires this one will not work.

I had the same problem with the gas gauge sending unit on my tractor. I fixed it. It takes a tiny little soldering iron of the type used for printed circuit boards and deft touch, but it can be done. Mine has worked fine ever since.

might also try the solder iron like suggested nothing ventured nothing gained. I put in a direct reading oil pressure gauge, was like 16 bucks for a 3 gauge kit, now it reads in english :)

some fuel problems have in past been traced to poor connection at the tank to sending unit connection the screws were not making good electrical contact and let the senders go bad. install a ground wire to the top screw if you put it back in..

I replaced the oil gauge with a new gauge the old style that uses the actual pressure. Not electric Thanks Robby

Well, I doubt that anyone could fix a resistor board that is busted in half. Not with that teeny little 48 gauge wire or whatever it is they use. Time to buy a new one, I guess.

Mine just broke the wire at the point it soldered to the terminal so I got lucky and got is soldered back and all is well.
