After work tonight as crazy as it seems at 2:00 am I continued my TLC on my tractor after work for this 100 hr. check point.

I could've really waited until tomorrow to post this but, I'm awake and the baby is asleep so therefore this is my free time.:D

Here are a few pictures of my sediment bowl and the crud in it. Anyone have any concerns??? I guess my filter is working correctly. Changed the filter anyhow for the sake of doing it for the first time. I have no idea if they did it at the 50 hour service or not. They changed all other filters so I'm guessing they did but, they couldn't remember for sure or not when I asked. Reinstalling fuel filter and sediment bowl wasn't any problem. I filled the bowl full. Left the retaining nut a little loose. Then turned the fuel back on and tightened as fuel slowly overflowed the bowl. Just for piece of mind I opened the bleed valve for about 10 seconds to assure no air was in the line. Cranked the engine over a few seconds to bleed the high pressure lines and then started her up. She didn't miss a beat.

After that I changed my coolant given that I haven't done it yet since I bought it in 2004. I went ahead and flushed the radiator after all coolant had drained and once water started running out drain port I started the engine and let her run a minute until the fluid was clear. Shut the engine off, turned off the water hose and waited for water to drain out of radiator. Once it finished draining I closed the drain valve and filled it back up with 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. Good morning.... good night!!!:)

Hey did you know that you have crud in the filter bowl? ;)

Consider the fuel filter is doing it's job and sleep peacefully. :)

Greg, I think your filter has done a superb job of stopping that crud from getting into your injector pump. It seems some states just have more problems keeping fuel clean than others. (I said "states," but maybe should have said "regions.") I've never noticed any water and extremely little sediment in my fuel filters. Heck, on my diesel pickup, I went over 100k miles on a filter and it still looked like new when I replaced it. For some reason, we get very clean fuel here in N. Texas.

On the coolant change... I would have drained and refilled without flushing. With my well water, I'd be afraid I'd introduce more "bad" corrosive minerals than were there in the old fluid by flushing. If the old fluid isn't rusty or murky, I think I'd just drain and refill with 50-50.

Jim a lot of that crud could possibly be my fault as well. On top of possible dirty fuel. However, I've always got my fuel from the new Murphy station there at Wal-mart. New storage tanks but, possibly dirty fuel from the delivery truck. Another mistake I may have made was over the winter when I used about 2 gallons left in a jug in late winter this year that had been sitting there since the end of last fall. I didn't notice it at the time but, it had a little red algae in it. For a funnel (see attachment) I use one of those 8 qt. Delphos from TSC that has the wire mesh so I would think I'd catch a lot of the bigger garbage that showed up in the bowl. However I've probably knocked some debris in there as well when fueling up out in the field when bush hogging. The crud in the bowl kind of reminds me of hay chaff. I didn't inspect it that well to see exactly what it was.

On the coolant change I read your post regarding not to flush the system. I was thinking the same thing the whole time about the mineral content in our county water and whether it'd be a smart thing to do. However, I just went ahead and did it. Hopefully my water isn't too hard. While draining the coolant it appeared to be in good shape color wise. My only question which I attempted to drain was the overflow tank. I thought about disconnecting the hose from the overflow to the radiator at the radiator but, it seemed to still be on there a little tight after taking the clamp ring off. At 2:00 am I figured it wasn't worth it so the original fluid is still in the overflow tank. I could have put my lips on it and siphoned it out but, naaaah. :D

I'm becoming addicted to TBN again. Maybe I'll do the before and after of my grass seeding and back field food plot this fall. At least I hope to get that all accomplished this fall. We'll see. :)

Here's that picture of the funnel.... which by the way is my favorite style of funnel for refueling my TC. Fit's in the hole solid and doesn't move. Probably what half of us use here I imagine.... being that it's available from TSC.

What does every one do with the old coolant? Is there any place that will recycle?

Well, I got ahold of the recycling company locally and they said try an autoparts store. AutoZone will take oil but, not coolant. I haven't researched any further than that for myself here locally.

I'm trying to do the right thing enviromentally now a days.

Got a friend that works at a garage? If so.. maybee he can do a 1-time coolant 'recovery' for you.

Called my County and they have a hazardous waste site for non-business folks (me). I have used them now for 2 years. The County does this so no nasty stuff gets dumped into the groundwater. No fee. Free (if you don't count your County taxes!)

Yet another timely topic here!

Just took delivery of a diesel storage tank yesterday - 275 gallons set up with a hand pump and filter. A friend stopped by and advised me to remove the filter. Says it makes hand pumping nearly impossible.

Anybody had any experience with tank filters? Seems like a mistake to take it out, since I paid extra to put it there for protection from crud, but I don't want to make filling up a 2 person project!! ;)

Thanks.

seems to me that there used to be a filter on diesel pumps at gas stations but not any more.
i guess i would try to pump it myself to see if my friend knows what he's talking about.
