Oil & Fuel Fuel filter change

It's time to change fuel filters on my BX1830. I'm guessing without the fuel pump running there should not be a problem with fuel going everywhere when I pull the filters off the hose. Should I have to bleed air from anything?

Never did it myself but Iwould assume that you need to bleed the air from the system after you introduce the new filter as it is filled with air when you put it in.

If yours is anything like my BX2200, fuel will go all over everything when you pull off that first hose. I use a small set of vise-grips to clamp off the supply line before pulling the hose.

Exactly right. Plus, no need to bleed the system.

While you have the clamp(s) off round the corners of the mounting bar with a file or grinder so the edges don't dig into the plastic filter.

I have learned, it is important to fill the new filter with diesel fuel before you put it on. When starting the engine, quickly run it at least near 3/4 throttle. It may sputter a bit but then should run normally. Whenever I have done this, I have not had to bleed the air out of the system.

I pinched off the line behind the filter. Replaced the filter. Then turn the key on for 30-45 seconds...Bleeds itself (at least the BX23 does)...Easy job.
