Ok so I bought a Wix fuel filter for my CK20 and when I tried putting it on yesterday ran into a slight issue. It appears that the hole at the top of the filter does not fit over nipple sticking out of the housing. I noticed that the old filter was crumpled a bit when I took it off and so the only way the new one would fit was to compress it about 1/4 inch. I would not think that I should have to do that.

Also a friend mentioned to me last night that I should add a lubricant to the road diesel I put in the tractor now, how does everyone else deal with this?

Thanks

Rancho

Save the money your friend would have you spend on fuel "lubricant" and buy the correct fuel filter for your tractor. Using a labelled fuel conditioner can be helpful, adding home brew 'lubricants" like ATF or motor oil can have mixed results. Adding nothing at all is probably the most common.

Allow contaminants to enter your injection pump by way of a damaged and improperly fitted filter and you will soon be replacing the pump. Not cheap.

My filter was not crushed when I swapped it out. The new filter did not crush either. I wonder if a piece of an old filter is stuck up in the filter housing? I use Lucas fuel treatment about every third tank even though it is not a must. I used it most of my life, and I have never had a major breakdown in the fuel system. I use clean diesel from my local BP as fuel. I only keep enough on hand for my immediate needs. That way my fuel is fresh and has the proper additives for winter or summer. There is no difference between road diesel and non-road diesel other than a dye added in order for the Government to keep up with it and the amount of taxes.

Sounds like you may have the wrong fuel filter, especially if you're duplicating what was already not a proper fit filter. You must get the correct filter and at least one spare to have on hand. Nothing worse than using an improperly fitted filter, if you destroy your injection pump you'll know why and won't forget the hole where your wallet used to be.
If you can't find the correct Wix buy OEM and save your bacon/wallet.
Buy off road diesel for your tractor- why pay on road taxes if you're not driving on highways?!:confused2:

For me, it is not worth the time. It is out of my way and I don't use enough to go get it. If it where close by I would use it.

OK, so I have what I thought is the correct filter it is a WIX 33389, that is what I put in yesterday. Tony, when you replaced yours, you put it in hole up correct? The manual shows an o-ring seal at the top I did not see one when I took the old filter out. I found the spec from wix that says how large the hole is suppose to be guess I will go measue the old one and see if it matches.

As far as off road diesel, the closest station that sells it is way out of my way.

Thanks all for the responses

So Wix site says the hole is suppose to be .520 and the old filter the hole was .49, so 3 thousands smaller than the spec says..hummm guess I got some filter shoppin to do.

The diesel fuel now has very little sulpher in it which acted as a lubricant. I also use road diesel because it's close and I only get 5 gallons at a time. I do add a Stanadyne brand additive for anti-gelling, lubricant, lower cetane, and injector cleaner. It's only a few cents per gallon and the engine starts and runs fine even in single digit temps along with no injector or pump problems so far in 600 hours. Maybe it would be fine without it but helps give me peace of mind. There have been many posts/discussions about an additive and some call it snake oil and a waste of money. Most agree that you need some form of anti-gelling additive if your temps are low but debate the lubricant property value. I guess do your own research and decide for yourself.
