Hey guys,
Manual for B26 says to clean the fuel filter at 100 hrs. You are to clean the filter bowl and the filter with kerosene. Question...is there anything else I can clean the filter with like gasoline or some other way if I don't have kerosene on hand? Thanks!

Gas will be fine... There are even manuals that say you can cut Diesel with Gas to thin it for winter..

A new filter for my tractor is under $10 so I will just replace it and clean the bowl. 100 hours is overkill mine will be at 200 hours. Cleaning the filter makes it too easy to get contaminates on the wrong side of the filter.

The manual really states this? In my mind gas in diesel is very hard on the lubrication of your fuel pump, etc. (ie: not good)

Not a tractor but an Oldsmobile in the mid 80's I would add a gal. of gas in each fill up in the winter to keep the fuel from jelling. Ran it over 360000 miles and only replaced one injector. When everyone else was setting in the cold from jelled fuel I was happily on the road with no problems! Dad done this to the 4020's in the early 60's with no problems too.

Maybe you can do this but why when cetane boost is readily available and actually good for your engine and power? I agree that replacing the filter sounds like a better idea than cleaning one if you are already getting messy.

WOW...had one of those dieselized 350s in a Caprice back then, and couldn't keep it running for the life of me...

Yep had a 350 diesel in my pick up truck, 1980 1/2 ton! Lasted about 2 years before I finally lost it and put in a gas engine. Lots of fun, two batteries, constant boostings, case of ether spray in the back and forget about even trying to start the thing -10C weather!

I would burn out a starter every 6 months to a year or so...AT $300.00 + DOLLARS or so each to replace!!! And this was in mid 80's dollars and me back then a starving student!!
