I'm currently doing my 400 hours inspection/maintence on my CK20. I have replaced the fuel filter now for the second time since I owned the tractor. I have found that the large ring nut that secures the clear plastic inspection bowl has to be very very tight in order to prevent leaks at the o-ring seal. This occurs where the large nut connects clear bowl to metal fitting with drain shut off. That makes future removal just that much harder because this lare nut has to be snugged very tight with a wrench or channel lock and there is hardly enough room to work especially to remove.

I always scrupulously clean mating surfaces and inspect o-ring. Does anybody else share this difficulty?

I just put the new filter in and turn the nut enough to keep the plastic cup on, then turn on the fuel until it overflows then tighten the nut until the fuel stops leaking. It is usually only hand tight and this method also avoids getting any air into the injection system.

I don't have to tighten mine that hard on my CK30 but maybe they are different. Maybe a new o-ring might be more flexible if that one has been compressed to much even from the factory.

Thanks for the input. I guess I will eliminate the potential o-ring issue by simply replacing. I also will get a better look under that valve body/shut-off with a mirror so I can see better in the event somethin is keepin the 0-ring from attaining a good seal. It can't be too complicated. Thanks again.

Another thing I have noticed when the inspection cup is off the shut-off assembly is that that shut off really is not shutting the complete flow of diesel fuel from passing through. By mistake I left the shut off closed and discovered when that little diesel is running the machine still manages to get enough fuel to run. Even in the shut off position and when the engine is not running the line drips fuel oil through the shut off body when inspection cup is on or off

On my CK30, I have three positions: run, air, and off. Run for normal use, air to help bleed the air out after changing the filter, and my off is definately off. Mine doesn't drip diesel when in the off position. I would think the CK20 setup should do the same.
