Case Dx 45 Cab
I searched through all of the NH threads and tried finding a fix but unfortunately a lot of people don't post their fixes so here I am. My tractor is new to me and I haven't used it much as I've been going through and fixing some minor issues and doing a full service on it. Last night I decided to take it to the gas station to top if off with fuel as I already had it in town. The gauge had been reading just above a half tank. I was surprised to only be able to get just over 2 gallons in it and it's at the top of the tank, or the bottom of the fill neck. The gauge was at about 5/8 before I added fuel and is still reading the same reading. It appears that some people have checked the ground and resistance of the sending unit, replaced the gauge or checked its connection, or also loosened the float some so it will move freely and then tightening it back up. But I wasn't able to find anyone that reported success. I haven't looked over the tank yet to even try to find where the sending unit is on the tank or where this access panel to the float is. If anyone has any suggestions or experience with a similar issue, I'd love to hear from you!

My gauge on my 1920 is way off. I think it has about a 10 gallon tank. But when it reads about 1/4 tank it will take less than 5 gallons.

Again, that tractor is new to me. So I'm looking forward to seeing what it does when I can get some fuel ran through it. Hopefully it will somewhat work a little better when it gets lower. I'm not as concerned about knowing I have a full tank, just an empty one!

Maybe I missed it but what model tractor is it?

I think he has a Case DX45.

I had to replace my sending unit on the TC40DA and now have to do it on the Boomer 8N. They both use the same unit as your DX45. The sending unit is under the cover in the middle of the tank. Remove the 2 screws that hold the cover in place and then the 5 screws for the sending unit. Replace the gasket at the same time. Here is the parts list from Messick's.

Thanks for the reply! Does having a cab change the access to it at all? Also, what kind of symptoms was your showing? It seems like that gauge can do different things depending on what wrong with it. Did you have a way to test your sending unit to confirm it was bad? Thanks!

Cab is the same. On the TC it just quit working, did not register any fuel. The Boomer is sticking. It will show correctly down to 1/2 tank, then stick there.
