I have a 2004 Jinma with a 1999 y380 in it 150 hours. I checked the oil and the level was way to high. I suspect that it is fuel. I see no bubbles leading me to believe that it is not water. I would like any suggestions . Thank you Robby

Smell the dipstick. That should confirm/deny the presence of diesel fuel. More likely it's the hydraulic pump seal. Go 'round behind the tractor and see if you're low on hydraulic fluid.

It could be hydraulic fluid from a leaking seal on the gear driven hydraulic pump shaft. Diesels run under light load can pass a fair ammount of unburnt fuel from combustion chamber, past rings to the crankcase. With only 150 hours, this would have to be quite a bit of blowby to raise the oil level significantly. It could also be from a leak around the injector pump shaft/housing into the forward part of the gear case. What does the oil smell like? Drain off a little sample and heat it up. If it is diesel, the lighter oil will more redilly give of that distinctive smell. If it smells like diesel, well then that must be the source(pump or rings). If you cannot smell diesel, then it is most likley hydraulic oil.

This sounds like that could be the problem. I was low on hydrolic fluid when I checked the oil. Do you think It's the seal at the hydrolic pump? Thanks Robby

Shaft seal or crack in the forward pump case. Had any other hyd problems or accidently deadhead/restrict the system flow?

Check the radiator and make sure thats full. Then at least you know it's not anti freeze in there.

I drained out about 3/4 gallon out of the moter. The oil level is close to correct now. There is no diesel smell. I am low on hydrolic fluid. The radiator is full. Where is the hydrolic seal that you mentioned. Thanks for your help. Robby

No dead heads or other hyd problems

I looked in my parts list. There are two different hyd set up's. I think I have the one with one hyd pump. The filter is under the seat and the hyd pump is on the same side as the exaust manifoldjust above the altinator. I do not understand where the hyd fluid is getting into the oil. Robby

That hydraulic pump receives it's mechanical drive from a gear inside the front timing gear case of the engine. That same timing gear train drives the fuel injector pump on the left side of the engine. The hydraulic pump shaft protrudes forward into the back side of the engine timing gear case. Those gears are driven off a gear on the front end of the crankshaft and lubricated with engine oil. If the shaft seal on the hydraulic pump shaft is leaking hydraulic oil along the shaft, it is quite easy for it to just run down the inside of the case and mix with the engine oil. Here is a link to John's Jinma site and a picture of the Y385 timing gear assembly. You probably have this same diagram in your engine manual.

Gear #24 is keyed onto the crankshaft and drives intermediate gear #20. This gear in turn drives #3 and #25. #3 is for the hydraulic pump and #25 drives the injector pump.
