The tractor is a Jinma 284 with the 385 engine. A while ago, I bought the new fuel filter assembly and decided I may as well replace the line that goes from the fuel pump/accross the top of all three injectors and then to the side of the tank near the top. the new line is the one with metal sheathing on the outside. Now is the first time I actually filled the tank close to the top as winter is getting close. But I find the fitting even though it's tight, leaks fuel. It has some sort of tapered line that you tighten it in the tank. Is there a seal or something I didn't put in??
Any suggestions.

I do not know about your tractor, but if you have a fitting that goes through the wall of the tank, and turns, then it has to have some sort of seal.
All of mine are welded to the tank.

Dry off the fitting and see if it is at the hose, or the tank to the fitting.

I also have a 284 with the 385T engine. The return line that goes into the upper part of my tank has a bubble flair. If you still have your original line check it for the type of flair a normal double flair has a trumpet look and a bubble flair has a somewhat rounded look. Now if you donot still have the line disconnect it from your tank and look into the connection on the tank if a bubble flair is needed on the line then it will be concaved (dished inwards), if it is a double flair then it will be convext (dished outwards).
So, if you are trying to connect a double flair line to a bubble flair connection all the plumbers dope and teflon tape this side of **** wont stop your leeking, you will need to get the propper line or attch a double flair X bubble flair connection on it.
Now if you have the right flair and after wrapping the threads on the tank with teflon tape before before reconnecting and it is still leeking then you probbly have connected a standard threadded line onto a metric connector.
I hope this helps you

I have the 284 with the 385 engine and I had two tank leak problems. The first leak problem was when I filled the tank passed 3/4. It would leak terribly. I discovered the leak was at the fuel level sensor. I removed it and put fuel resistant gasket sealer around the seal. That fixed that problem.

Next I developed a leak under the tank where the fuel line connected to the fuel bowl, or so I thought. I touched the fuel bowl and it literally fell off in my hand. I tried to screw the ring back in place with no success. When the glass bowl fell off and the fuel flow was unrestricted I discovered the answer to yet another long standing problem. When under load from the wood chipper the engine would lose power and spew blue white smoke. But not all the time, just some times. The fuel flow through the float bowl was enough to run the engine at most RPM's but under heavy load it wasn't enough. The fuel shutoff lever did nothing, it didn't increase of decrease the fuel flow. Looking at the volume of fuel flow it was a miracle that the engine even ran at all. It was just a tiny trickle.

So I bought a fuel bowl kit which had a new fuel bowl and fuel line from Circle G (I think that was the company) and that fixed the defected fuel bowl. The guy at Circle G said he has seen quite a few defected fuel bowls and lines.

You may want to call Circle G he may have a quick fix for you.

Good Luck

I had already done the fuel bowl upgrade from Ronald at Ranch Hand/it is a nice quality fuel bowl and comes with easy to understand instructions and everything you need. That was also when I ordered the new fuel line going from pump to top of injectors and back to the top of the fuel tank..Recently was when I actually filled the tank over where the line goes in the tank, that's when it leaked, I know it's the correct line etc. So for now I cleaned the line/fittings etc.lowered the fuel level and tried some of the ole permatex #1 sealer I had around here for 20-30 years. If it dosen't fix it I'll tap the tank fitting to take a sae pipe tap and put a different fitting on the hose and thread it in. There is no pressure there anyhow. Or I could just remember to not fill it within 1 inch of the top of the tank. Thanks
