I was working on a fuel leak on my '73 3550 when I popped a nut off what I think is the fuel level control shaft (number 85 at Object moved under Fuel System/09E01). The leak was coming from the red oval in the below picture and when I moved the nut in the red square, the post it was on snapped. Also, out of curiosity I tried to start the engine and no fuel was getting to the injector lines.
Does anyone have any experience working on this type of fuel pump, or in this area? What does that shaft do that would make no fuel reach my injectors? Should I remove my fuel pump from the machine to work on it in a clean environment? It's been a heck of a week and I'd love to just send this to a proper mechanic but I just don't have the funds (see: my other thread regarding my hydraulic fluid). I swear I don't just go around over-torquing bolts!
