Tractor
Ford 1620
I replaced my cracked fuel pump with a used fuel pump. Every thing seemed fine, tried to start and after four or so tries, tractor started. Ran very nice. Test drove and had power with no problems. Turned off and on a couple of times and then put loader. Left it for the night and then started it up in the morning and to my surprise, the engine RPMs were extremely high and the throttle could not control rpms. Tried to turn off key, but tractor kept on running, until it slowly died. Now I can not start. Tried to bleed using screw and at injectors. Fuel does come out at screw, but nothing at any of the injectors. Two problems? just a bleeding problem? How long does it take to bleed? Solenoid works - tried out side of pump. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

When you say fuel pump, do you mean fuel pump or fuel injection pump? It would also be of help to know the tractor model.

Sounds like either the governor, or control rack are sticking

Does sound like something is either sticking or defective. I read a post for some other thread about shooting starting fluid in and having the vapors fill the fuel system and how that is bad for it and the engine runs at high rpms until all fuel is burned. Sort of sounds like what happened to me, without the starting fluid of course. But, why a no start now? Where is the control rack located? Is that in the injector pump? I suspected the rod that slides back and forth on the injector pump - not sure of name, but I believe it shuts the fuel off and on.
We are working on it now, but no luck yet. Thanks for your help.

A friend took out the "new" used injector pump and found that the control rod was sticking and rough. cleaned it up and still seemed slightly rougher then the old control rod in the cracked pump. Returning it tomorrow for another. Wish me luck. Alternative is a new rebuilt for $800 - $900. I use the tractor a lot, but with 3200 hours, I take my chances on another used one.

thanks jbrink64 for your response.
