Hello - the strong consensus from folks at this site is to mix #1 diesel with #2 for the colder months, which comes soon here in Minnesota. I've got two questions:

1) Should I do a simple 50/50 mix of #1 and 2, or what would be the correct ratio? I will be ordering a bulk delivery and need to tell the dealer quantities for both.

2) This one's not really a weather question - if I am getting bulk of about 300 gallons and it takes my 6-9 months to use that much, am I susceptible to any problems with older fuel? I will use PowerService additives to boost the fuel quality.

Might want to try posting the question in the oils, fuels and lubricants section of the forum. The question has been beaten to death over there.

Most places, for the winter months, sell "winterized" #2 diesel... which is already pre-blended... so you shouldn't have to worry about it, as long as you've got "fresh" fuel.

Where you'll run into the problem is if you have "summer" fuel in storage and take it into the winter. Then a 50-50 blend willl work just fine. You could also treat your fuel with PowerService, which provides anti-gelling protection... different types of PowerService provide different amounts of protection.

When you order your bulk delivery just ask for winter blend. That's what they call it here in NY. It's pre mixed to about a 50/50 blend. Then add your own power service additive (white bottle). I don't use that much so I don't buy in bulk, I just pre mix my own 5 gal. jugs in winter.
