JD 6400
My JD6400 will shutoff after operating for and hour or so. I have been reading several threads involving the fuel shutoff solenoid and the thermistor relationship. The tractor cold starts perfectly everyday but will shut down after heavy use. After it sits for 30 seconds for so, it will restart but only after cranking for about 10 seconds like the fuel has shutoff. it will operate for several minutes sometimes an hour and shut down again. could this be the thermistor and or the solenoid??????

Possible debris in the fuel tank.

Not likely since i had to replace the lift pump in the tank in May and cleaned out the tank.

Try blowing a fan on it while running. If this corrects the problem or extends the time you will know where the problem is. You might also try to direct cooling air flow on it or heat shield it as a fix.

Turns out you were right. I pulled the pump out of the tank and the intake screen was about 90 percent clogged with a jelly like matter commonly referred to as algae. This forms in the tank if you have water in your fuel. Several products on the market to kill this>>> Power Service has one called Bio Clean and another one called KILLEM which i used. Killem work great for me. Tractor has run perfect for about 2 months now since treating.

I will try and remember this on our 6200. I'm guessing the pump was having a hard time and the thermister was shutting off the fuel pump when it got hot. If it ever happens again, as soon as it quits, cycle the key and have in the "on" position without starting. You should be able to hear the fuel pump. My guess is you won't hear it, until the thermister cools down and restores power to the fuel pump.
