2012 massey ferguson 2605
i have a new mf 2605. i really like it except it usually takes 4 to 7 tries with the fuel shut-off knob to get it to die. the dealer told me that all 2605's are like that and if they adjust anything, it will mess up the throttle. does anyone know how to adjust the knob so my tractor will die? my old ford 3000 did not have this problem. thanks.

I think your dealer is shinning you on! If this is a new tractor, I'm surprised it doesn't have a solenoid cut off valve. What does your owners manual say?

The fuel cut off is usually separate from the governor lever. Look at the injection pump. There should be a push-pull cable attached to a lever on the fuel control. When you pull it out it cuts off the fuel; when you push it in it opens the fuel. Pull it into the cut off position. There is generally a screw that clamps the inner part of the push -pull cable to the lever. Note the direction the lever moves when you pull to the cut off position and the length of excess cable before you adjust it. Loosen that screw and move the lever all the way over in that direction and tighten the screw. Now push it forward to the open position and start your tractor and go use it. Test it under load to make sure that you can develop full power. Put it back to idle and let it sit for a minute that pull it to the cut off position. It should shut the engine off quickly.

G'day sounds to me like the cable may be routed the wrong way or is damaged making it stiff and hard to pull right out to the stop. Talk to another dealer service dep and ask them if they have had any one complain of the same prob, they should tell you if they haven't then go back to your dealer and complain again, if they have then ask them what the fix is for it and take that to your dealer
A new tractor should not be like that

the dealer called me last Friday and said they were sending a tech out to replace the fuel shutoff cable on my tractor, that fixed that problem, but they left me with a fuel line leaking at the injector pump. i had to get them out Saturday to fix that.it has taken six weeks for them to get the problems that should have been corrected on the pre-dlivery inspection done. it sure has been frustrating. This is my first new tractor and it has taken six weeks of **** to get it right.

Wondering how hard do u have to pull on the fuel shut off knob. Mine is hard to pull out after taking the slack up.

you must pull the knob out as far as you can. using a lot of force and hold it and sometimes this does't work. it took 6 pulls this morning to kill it.

Either its getting easier or I have learned to pull harder as now I don't notice it as much. I was used to the MF 135 and it operated with no/very little pressure and did not have to hold it as it fell into a notch that held it for u.

I have had my 2605 for three years, and HAD the same problem till today. Thats when the fuel cutoff cable broke. When I replaced it, it was obvious why it had been hard to pull. The way that it had been routed caused almost a 90 degree bend as it passed the fuel filters. I installed the new cable by routing it up, around and to the outside of the filters. There is still a bend, but not nearly as tight. The only downside to my change is that the cable will be slightly in the way when I change my filters.

my tractor is at the dealer's where I am trying to get some of the issues with it resolved. this is one of the things I am concerned about, since this is the third time for them to work on it. if they do not fix it, I will try your suggestion. I will keep you posted and thanks for the tip.
