FUEL TANK RUST AND DIRT

I have an old cub lo-boy and it runs fine but by fuel tank is so rusty and all that it is pluging up the fuel line. I would buy a new one but i am told that part is no longer available. i have thought about cutting a hole in it to get inside so i can clean it then use jb weild or and epoxy. is there some thing i can use to seal the inside to stop new rust

Throw a small handful of nuts and bolts in there. Use nothing that will create a problem to get out of the opening. Then add some sudsy ammonia, dish washing liquid and water so the tank is 1/3 full. Reinstall cap and then shake like you were at a music fest with a tambourine. After a while the inside of the tank will be clean. The sudsy ammonia and dish washing liquid are to remove the oily grime and the nuts and bolts are to knock the rust loose and polish the interior of the tank. Then flush with very hot water a few time until it appears clean enough to your liking. Allow to dry and then seal with a good brand of gasoline tank sealer. I use a sealer from www.eastwood.com . They also have a very good rust remover if you want to use a commercial product. Personally, I like it better than the POR 15 tank sealer product, but we each have our favorites.

Secret is to get all rust out. Fill with nuts, washed gravel etc and laundry detergent, then it's a whole lotta shakin goin on. If you've got a spare tractor, you can block it up and strap tank to rear tire. I then use metal prep acid to kill rust, rinse and set in sun to dry. That's 99% of the battle, then I use Redkote urethane sealer and let dry till no fumes are smelled.
